May 16, 2017 Respect Life Update

Greetings everyone!

A few days ago I again heard the most beautiful words… “In the name of Jesus Christ I absolve you from your sins.”  I entered the confessional with a heavy heart, but when Father spoke those words, my soul snapped to attention & my heart soared with hope.  With this month’s focus on Healing after Abortion, it has become my prayer that each woman who has had an abortion (& those involved in her decision) would soon hear those very words & come to know the incredible gift of healing that God so patiently & lovingly waits to give them.  Please join me in interceding for them!

Every week at the Gen. Pershing abortion facility precious babies are killed & their mothers are wounded for a lifetime.  The need is *great* for us to be a presence there, witnessing for life & for true help.  Please prayerfully consider joining those on the sidewalk.  See details below under Abortion…

Please consider helping out with our spiritual work of mercy for Maygift bags for those who make the Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat.  See Healing after Abortion below…

*******A request from Archbishop Aymond

With the recent closures of facilities in Bossier City and Metairie, there are three remaining abortion clinics operating in the state of Louisiana, one within the city of New Orleans — Woman’s Health Care Center on General Pershing Street. On many Tuesday through Friday mornings there are upwards of 25 women waiting in line to enter the clinic, while there may be at most only one sidewalk counselor present to offer support. Life is beautiful…a powerful witness from a dear friend & colleague…

“I think God allowing me to be here rather than in a box in the ground can perhaps enhance my ability to speak to certain kinds of people and have them take me seriously. I’ve just been humbled beyond belief by things. I’m so unworthy of that, but I’m willing to accept it. This has just made me aware of how much more blessed I am, and that it’s not a matter of merit, it’s a matter of God’s goodness.”

End of Life Issues/Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia

“Now, there’s a campaign to extend what Canada calls ‘physician assistance in dying’ beyond the terminally ill to include the mentally ill. This comes as no surprise to those who have followed the trajectory of Belgian and Dutch laws, which have served as a model for the rest of the world.”

Fertility/Infertility/Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART/IVF)

Ladies, get educated about Fertility Awareness!  It’s not just about Natural Family Planning…the health benefits to you are real & for your whole lifetime

“I would also add that a prospective study that includes prospective charting of the menstrual cycle that includes natural biological markers of fertility and levels of menstrual bleeding, i.e., charting systems that are commonly found in natural family planning systems, would provide a more accurate assessment of premenstrual spotting. This study also reinforces the benefit of charting the menstrual cycle as a vital sign for women’s health.”

Healing after Abortion

The May Respect Life focus is on Healing after Abortion

Our spiritual work of mercy

Please join in our prayers during the month of May…

Lord of all Life,

You have entrusted us to the care of one another,

And called us to be one Body in Christ.

You call us to rejoice with those who rejoice,

And to weep with those who weep.

Hear our prayer today

For our brothers and sisters who have lost children to abortion.

Help us to understand

The pain that is in their hearts,

And to be a living sign to them

Of your welcome, your mercy, and your healing.

Help them to undergo with courage

The process of grief and the journey of healing.

Never allow them to feel alone;

Always refresh them with the presence of Your Spirit

And of their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Console them with the sure hope

That you love and care for their children.

Give them new strength,

That even while they grieve what they have lost,

They may look forward to all the good

That you still have in store for them.

Lord of healing and hope,

Give us all the forgiveness of our sins,

And the joy of your salvation.

We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.

Our corporal work of mercy…

The suggested corporal work of mercy for those in parishes focuses on supporting our local Rachel’s Vineyard ministry.  The next Rachel’s Vineyard retreat in the archdiocese will be held November 10, 11, 12, but the Rachel’s Vineyard team is already working behind the scenes preparing to minister & serve those who will come for Jesus’ healing.  To assist them, the Respect Life Office is collecting gift bag to give to those on retreat.  Suggested items include tissues, a votive candle, a journal/tablet, a pen, & a pretty bookmark — all in a nice gift bag.  Also include any prayer offering you will make for them that we can include in our Spiritual Bouquet.  An additional suggestion is to sponsor one who will make the November Rachel’s Vineyard retreat.  This could be done as a group or a parish, & it may be a full ($170) or partial sponsorship.  To arrange pick up of your donated gift bags or to learn more about how to sponsor a Rachel’s Vineyard retreatant, please email the Respect Life Office at

A mother’s testimony about how her son whom she aborted brought her to the love of Christ

“I cannot help but think about how I, like Peter, denied Christ in the gift of life he had given me in my son. I do not deny him anymore. Joshua is a part of my daily life as I meet him in the Eucharistic body of Jesus, who unites heaven and earth. My son whom I have never met, but I know very deeply. Through his life that never was in this world, Joshua saved me…”
